Understand what your car reports

Know What Your Car Reports

See vehicle-supported readings live, inspect stored and pending fault codes, and capture trip data for explicit export.

Coming soon on Google Play

You need an OBD-II vehicle, a compatible Android phone, and a compatible OBD-II adapter (like the OBDLink MX+) paired in Android settings. Vehicle, adapter, and reading support vary.

How it works

See the data. Check faults. Export trips.

Connect your adapter and choose what matters. OBD Auto shows only implemented readings that your vehicle reports as supported.

Choose the readings you care about

Show 1 to 6 dashboard items in US customary or metric units. Supported readings can include speed, engine RPM, coolant and intake air temperature, throttle position, fuel level, mass airflow, and control module voltage. (varies by vehicle)

Check stored and pending codes

Scan both code states and read bundled offline descriptions where available.

Clear codes only when stopped

The app allows a clear request only while connected and stopped, after a warning. Clearing erases stored codes, resets emissions readiness monitors, can affect inspection results, and does not fix the fault.

Capture trips. Export when ready.

Trip samples stay in memory while you record. Stop recording, choose CSV or JSON, then pick a destination from the Android share sheet.

Keep supported readings easy to glance at

Phone-projected Android Auto templates show selected telemetry and link to fault information. Choose dashboard items and manage the adapter on your phone. A compatible Android Auto host is required.

Phone projection only

OBD Auto works through phone-projected Android Auto. It does not support Android Automotive OS or install on a vehicle's built-in system.

Before you connect

What you need to connect

Phone, vehicle, and adapter

  1. A compatible Android phone
  2. An OBD-II vehicle
  3. A compatible OBD-II adapter like the OBDLink MX+

Pair the adapter in Android Bluetooth settings first. OBD Auto connects only to an already-paired adapter.

Use Bluetooth Classic

Bluetooth Low Energy, including BLE-only adapters, and Wi-Fi-only adapters do not work with the app.

Tested with the OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner. Adapter, vehicle, and reading support vary.

Local by design

Your data stays local until you share it

The current app has no account, ads, analytics, Internet permission, or configured developer endpoint. It handles vehicle readings, fault codes, settings, selected adapter details, app-private session logs, and unshared trip samples on your device.

Exporting CSV or JSON opens the Android share sheet. Only the destination you choose receives the file. Android app data backup is off. Remove local app data in Android settings or by uninstalling the app.

Use it safely

Eyes on the road. Use the data as context.

Start trip recording before you drive. While the vehicle is moving, do not use phone controls to set up the app, scan or clear codes, start or stop recording, export files, or manage the adapter. Glance at Android Auto only when it is safe and legal. A passenger may use the phone while the vehicle is moving.

Readings and fault codes are for information only. They may be late, incomplete, unsupported, or wrong. Do not use OBD Auto for safety decisions or as proof of vehicle condition. Follow vehicle warnings and manufacturer guidance. Ask a qualified automotive professional to inspect, diagnose, or repair the vehicle.

Clearing codes erases stored fault information and resets emissions readiness monitors. It may affect inspection results and does not fix the cause. Read the warning before you confirm.
